Susan Kae Grant's Night Journey series represents a collaboration between art and science. The artist collaborated with sleep researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas to retrieve the narratives and images she experienced in deep REM sleep. Grant was digitally monitored by trained technicians, awakened and questioned to access the images she later used as inspiration for the series.
These evocative images suggest the half-remembered but deeply felt dreams that haunt us all.
Susan Kae Grant is a professor of visual art at Texas Woman's University in Denton.
