ANNE REED GALLERY has been in operation for 20 years but it's not resting on its laurels.
It's constantly striving to bring in unique work from around the world that will be the stuff of conversation over the drinking fountain. To wit, NANCY YOUDELMAN's dresses made of spools of threads, buttons and other mixed media, currently being shown at the gallery. And WALTER MARTIN and PALOMA MUNOZ's snow globes.
As of Christmas the gallery, owned by Barbi Reed, started putting the emphasis of fun in Gallery Walks. For instance, it began eschewing the wine that's commonly served at the various galleries for whiskey sours and sangria, depending on the theme of the evening.
The gallery exhibits nationally and internationally recognized artists who have their own unique voice represented by innovative, distinct work. And it is pushing the bounds with the work it shows, which ranges from photographs to sculpture.
"We want to show people that art doesn't have to be stuffy or just decorative. We want to show them that it can be exciting," said the gallery's assistant director, Casey Hanrahan.
